Scientists have discovered that there are foods that actually affect our moods.
When certain foods are eaten they modify the brain’s production and release of neurotransmitters.
Researchers have found that 1/6 of the neuron-transmitters that the brain and nervous
system depend on can be affected by food.
Here are a few of these foods:
Chocolate
Many people believe that chocolate is a mood enhancer because it smells, tastes
and looks appealing. However chocolate, it has been discovered, contains phenylethylamine
which is a chemical that is associated with comfort and being in love.
Canola, Flaxseed and Walnut Oils
These are essential fatty acids of the Omega-3 family but differ from the Omega-3
in fish. They are very important because our body can’t produce them and they must
come from a food source. Flaxseed oil is very sensitive to heat and light so it
should be stored in the refrigerator and used in cold foods like salad dressings
and dips. Both Flaxseed oil and walnut oil can be found in health food stores.
Omega-3 eggs are also a good source of this fatty acid because the chickens are
fed a diet high in flax seed. Try adding ground flaxseed to cereal or mixed with
almond pieces as a topping to yogurt.
High Carbohydrate Foods
High carbohydrate foods increase the brain levels of an amino acid called tryptophan
which the brain uses to make the neuron-transmitter serotonin. High levels of serotonin
can be linked with happier moods. It is for this reason many who have eaten a high
carb meal feel more relaxed and contented. Too many refined carbs are not a good
thing so try a wholegrain variety of carbs such as whole grain toast with honey
or whole wheat pasta with spaghetti sauce.
Fish
Salmon, mackerel, trout, herring, sardines and anchovies are all cold water fatty
fish that will help stabilize your mood as well as help ward off heart disease.
The reason for this is the 2 omega-3 fats that are found in fish.
Of all the food mood enhancers, close to the top of the list is eating food at regular
intervals. Skipping meals and making dramatic changes to your eating pattern can
affect your neurotransmitter levels and therefore your mood.
If you find it difficult to consume the essential fatty acids, take advantage of
Tahiti Trim® Plan 40® Omega 3, 6, 9 Blend. Besides
helping your mood it will benefit your heart, joint and vision.
