- Stay active: by staying active you keep your metabolic rate up which helps keep
our bodies burning calories. Aim to exercise 30 minutes a day, 3 to 4 days a week
that is high enough in activity to break into a sweat.
- Avoid eating starch foods like breads, pastas, bagels, cookies even if they are
low-fat instead choose higher fiber alternatives like whole grains or reach for
veggies and fruit
- Make desserts and sweets a highlight or treat for the week eating one or two on
the weekend or special occasions. If it is possible keep them out of your house
and “go out” to indulge.
- Eat every three or four hours to keep your metabolism even and burn calories more
efficiently. It can be something small like a piece of fruit or a small yogurt or
small handful of nuts.
- Slow down on the alcoholic beverages. Just like the desserts it adds up.
- Fill your diet with vegetables, fruit, legumes, whole grains, low fat dairy products
and fish or a palm (the part of your hand that isn’t your fingers) sized piece of
lean meat.
